People have used mustard as both a healing remedy and as a condiment for millennia. Spices are added to ground mustard seeds to make the condiment we know. The mustard oil it contains is said to stimulate the production of digestive enzymes and to have an anti-bacterial effect. Mustard oil has been known in Germany since the 16th century, but has only been discovered as a cold-pressed gourmet oil in recent times. Mustard oil is an aromatic all-rounder for use in creative, local dishes. It works well in salads and can also be heated up to 180°C.
