Safflower has been cultivated as a crop for centuries. It originates in ancient Egypt, where it was used initially to make red and yellow dyes.
Today, this type of thistle is grown for us locally in the Bliesgau area. We use the seeds to make a delicious oil that adds a subtle flavour and aroma to food. It’s high linoleic acid content makes it stand out from other plant-based oils. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid our bodies cannot produce themselves and needs to come from our food.
Whether you use safflower oil for salads or for cooking (up to 150°C), it will bring out the taste of the dish. It works particularly well with leaf salads, sprouts and pumpkin.
